Module Two: Accountability

Accountability means owning your choices and following through, no matter what. It’s the willingness to take responsibility for actions and decisions, even when it’s hard. When work is stressful or busy, it can be tempting to deflect blame or avoid tough conversations. But we know it’s worth the effort because accountability builds trust and sets the tone for how teams work together.

To hold oneself accountable requires courage. Admitting mistakes, holding ourselves to the same standards we expect from others, and stepping up when something goes wrong all demand bravery. Leaders who show this courage build stronger teams and create an environment where people feel safe to take ownership, give feedback, and learn from every challenge. This is the foundation of accountability.

A culture of accountability makes a good organization great and a great organization unstoppable.
— Henry Evans

This module introduces three key principles of effective leadership: Personal Accountability, Ownership, and Feedback. These principles guide how we practice operational discipline at 3M Chem Ops, from delivering safe and reliable production to building strong, connected teams. As you learn strategies for being an accountable leader, take time to reflect on how you show up and how to build a culture that supports consistent, safe, and reliable performance.

With the right habits and mindset, you can create an environment where people take pride in their work, support each other, and drive safe, reliable operations together. Let’s get started!
