Module Seven: Growth Mindset

A Growth Mindset is the belief that your abilities and intelligence can be strengthened through effort, experience, and reflection. What defines you as a leader isn't your current skill set. Instead, it's your willingness to keep developing, to challenge your assumptions, and to admit when there's a better way.

For Chem Ops, a growth mindset supports adaptability and problem-solving. It affects how you respond when plans fall apart, how quickly you adjust when conditions change, and whether you engage with new approaches or default to familiar ones. Operations improve when leaders think flexibly, and that kind of thinking requires a willingness to learn. Resisting change or insisting on "the way we've always done it" limits what your team can accomplish. In contrast, staying curious and committed to growth creates an environment where people adapt, innovate, and keep moving forward.

Why waste time proving over and over how great you are, when you could be getting better?
— Carol Dweck

Growth takes courage. It means facing discomfort, questioning what you think you know, and moving forward despite uncertainty. In this module, you'll explore three aspects of leading with a growth mindset. In Are You Built for Change? you'll examine how you respond to disruption and what mindset helps you navigate it. Moving from Fear to Curiosity explores how uncertainty affects your decisions and how reframing your perspective opens up new possibilities. In Finding the Stretch Zone, you'll learn how to embrace discomfort as part of growth and how to challenge yourself effectively. Let’s begin!
